Der er brug for mange forskellige evner og kvalifikationer hos NLAI. I et arbejde, hvor målgruppen er fattige, socialt belastede børn med mange grimme oplevelser i bagagen, har vi både brug for lærere, psykologer, pædagoger, sygeplejersker osv. Ligeledes i administrationen kan vi også bruge mange forskellige evner. Her kan f.eks. nævnes kontoruddannede, journalister, web-uddannede osv. Det er kun fantasien der sætter grænser.

Har du lyst til at blive frivillig og særligt bruge din uddannelse, er du meget velkommen hos NLAI. Ansøg her på siden og uddyb i ansøgningen, hvordan du ønsker at hjælpe. Det er muligt at kombinere din indsats, sådan at du både varetager opgaver, hvor din uddannelse er nødvendig og hvor den ikke er det.

Det er et stort privilegium, når nogle vælger frivilligt at give deres tid til at hjælpe os i NLAI i Nakuru, Kenya. I NLAI elsker vi at have frivillige, for vi tror på at det er givende og inspirerende for alle parter (Susanne, Direktør NLAI)

As a volunteer you will build relationships both with the children as well as the staff at NLAI. This will give you a better cultural understanding, which can be a great advantage for you no matter where in the world you will work in the future.

After talking with a leader in NLAI, you will jointly agree on which tasks you can conduct during your stay. It all depends on your education, interests, skills and qualifications. As a long-term volunteer, we expect that you are here to be an active part of NLAI’s work. Therefore we ask our volunteers to work 5 days a week for approximately 7 hours per day (pensioner’s may make special agreements). It is possible to buy lunch at the NLAI centre or you can also bring a packed lunch with you (max. 1 hour lunch break). You have to be flexible when working at NLAI. During your stay in Kenya it is possible to go on a variety of trips to see the beautiful country.

Er du under uddannelse og skal i et praktikforløb, er det også en mulighed hos NLAI. På samme vis som frivillige, skal du ansøge her på hjemmesiden. Det er vigtigt at du tydeligt beskriver, hvilken uddannelse du tager, hvad du ønsker at specialisere dig i, hvad du ønsker din praktik skal omhandle, og til sidst, hvilke specifikke krav dit uddannelsessted har opsat. Din ansøgning vil blive udgangspunktet for videre dialog omkring dit praktikophold.

Det er vigtigt at notere, at du selv er ansvarlig for, at dit uddannelsessted godkender dit praktikophold. Vi udfylder selvfølgelig gerne nødvendige papirer og skriver også en anbefaling efter afsluttet praktikforløb.

“During the summer of 2011, I spent one month as a volunteer at NLAI at the crisis centre and the glass jewellery workshop, Kioo Lulu. I spent the majority of my time helping the women make jewellery, babysit the wonderful kids that were at the crisis centre and making a catalogue that presented the beautiful Kioo Lulu jewellery. The children felt secure around me, the women opened up to me and several of them became my friends.

When I came home, I was dying to go back and saved up money for another trip in February and March 2012. This time I worked together with the social workers at the school and helped them update class lists and archive pictures, while also spending time with the women at the crisis centre.

I will never forget my time with NLAI and I will probably always return to Nakuru to the people I met there. I have never before been so well received, have got to know so many amazing people in such a short time or learn so much about the world and life as I did during those months I spent at NLAI! As the expression goes: There are places you leave. And places that never leave you…”

Over the years NLAI had many volunteers both for long and for short periods of time. An extra pair of hands is always a help and NLAI is grateful for the difference they make. As a volunteer at NLAI one must be willing to work, want to help make a difference and be at least 20 years old.
